Following the success from last year, we are once again partnering with the Steak Cookoff Association (SCA) to bring the fastest growing cooking organization to Colorado! We are pleased to host our second SCA Certified Judge’s Class Friday afternoon (must be a member of SCA to participate), and also Colorado’s first officially sanctioned SCA Steak Competition of 2019 on Friday evening. The Steak Cookoff follows all of the rules and guidelines of the Steak Cookoff Association! Friday evening (April 26) enjoy a great selection of libations in our hospitality tent including craft draft brews and craft cocktails to complement a terrific variety of delicious food vendors (BBQ and others too) alongside our second annual steak cook off with a side of appetizer competition for good measure. If that’s not enough sensory delight for you, add in the musical stylin’s of Chris Romero and the Romero Band. Steak competitors will battle for a $2,000 purse, and appetizer competitors for a winner takes all prize payout (based on the number of contestants). You do not have to be an SCA member to enter the steak or appetizer competitions! See our competitions page for additional info and requirements. And as a special bonus, Pitmaster Sterling Smith from Green Mountain Grills and Loot N’ Booty BBQ is offering a bonus challenge: if the winning steak is grilled on a Green Mountain Grill, the winner receives a bonus $200, but wait, there’s more… if the winning steak is seasoned with Sterling Smith’s Loot N’ Booty BBQ What’s Your Beef? Rub, the winner receives a bonus $200, AND if the winning steak is both seasoned with the Loot N’ Booty Rub and grilled on a Green Mountain Grill, the winner receives the whole $400 bonus!
Saturday afternoon (April 27) savor the mouthwatering aroma of serious handcrafted BBQ from original recipes showcased in four competition categories: Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Butts, and Beef Brisket. 40 expert level teams from up and down the Rocky Mountain Region are competing for a $10,000 purse in cash and prizes. Lulu’s Brew & Que is a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned state competition, following all of the rules and guidelines of the prestigious KCBS organization, and our judges are all certified by KCBS. Come on down and enjoy delicious food samplings, a great selection of libations in our hospitality tent, a variety of delicious food vendors (BBQ and others too), live music by the Brian Raine Band, vendor booths, a fun zone for kids, and the Kids’ Que Cook-off sponsored by Christensen Ranch (see our competitions page for Kids’ Que info).
It’s like two events in one—two days of fun for all ages! Both Friday evening and Saturday afternoon events are open to the public and free to attend.
